Virtual Job Fair Tips for Job Seekers
Attending a traditional job fair can be an intimidating and daunting task; yet attending a Virtual Job Fair is anything but that! A virtual event is the stress-free way to a successful and productive job search.
The Summit Virtual Job Fair is a month-long event allowing local companies the ability to highlight information about their company and open positions to you, the potential candidate, 24/7. Unlike the old traditional job fair where you had to take time off from work, or schedule your day around when you could physically get to the event, The Summit Virtual Job Fair allows you to learn more about potential employment opportunities and apply for them without ever leaving the comfort of your home, or office for that matter!
Before The Virtual Job Fair
- Review your resume to make sure it is error-free, current and accurately reflects your skills and accomplishments.
- Post your resume on Yahoo! HotJobs by clicking here. This will allow your information to be readily available to potential employers. If your resume is already on Yahoo! HotJobs, be sure to update your profile to reflect your most current information.
- While on TBO.com, be sure to review the list of companies that will be participating in the Virtual event. Visit the companies' websites to review their company culture, corporate values, and employment opportunities.
- Because this is a Virtual event starting on April 27th, you will need to be prepared to start speaking with potential employers on that day. To help get ready, you should write a concise :30 - :45 second summary of your work experience, qualifications, educational background, and career interests. Read the summary aloud several times until you become comfortable with it. Practicing now will help you feel prepared and confident when you're talking with your potential new employer.
- You only have one opportunity to make a first impression, so make that first phone conversation a great one!
After Speaking with Potential Employers
- Send thank-you letters or e-mail, attaching a copy of your resume, to the hiring managers you had conversations with. This is an excellent opportunity to review the information discussed during the phone interview and provide additional information about yourself!
